About Story Travel

Story Travel is an independent digital magazine covering Stories, Culture, Slow Travel, Essays and Travel. Some journeys only make sense at the pace of whoever lives there. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.

About Story Travel

The profile is the house form. A piece begins with someone and reaches the place through them, which means naming a job, a wage, a language, and a reason that person stayed or left. Interviews happen face to face, and subjects are told plainly what the piece is for.

Inside the Sections

Stories carries the reported narratives: the ferry crew, the seed keeper, the border town pharmacist, the guide who stopped guiding — each reaching a place through the people living in it, with their work and words on the record. Culture covers languages and dialects under pressure, craft workshops and apprenticeships, religious practice and the customs a visitor most often misreads, explained by practitioners rather than guidebooks. Slow Travel is the practice itself: overland routes by train, bus and ferry, month-long rentals and the paperwork behind them, walking between towns, and the arithmetic of time against airfare, with timetables, costs and visa limits included. Essays gives writers room for argument and first-hand reflection — returning somewhere after years away, the contradictions of being a visitor, borders and belonging. Travel News reports sleeper train restorations, long-stay visa changes, ferry timetables and site access restrictions for readers whose plans run in months rather than days, and Business News follows the operators, funds and ministries whose spending decides which places get promoted next.

Two things are refused here: writing that turns residents into scenery, and the word undiscovered applied to a community that has occupied the same valley for four centuries.
